How to enter insert mode in Vim, six ways — i a I A o O

Six doors into insert mode, each landing the cursor exactly where the edit starts — including opening a fresh line.

Almost every entry was run headless in Vim 9.1 and the resulting file checked; the few entries a tiny build cannot run (system clipboard, persistent undo, the sudo save) were verified against Vim's own documentation instead.

i " insert before the cursor a insert after the cursor (append)
I " insert at the first non-blank A insert at the end of the line
o " open a new line BELOW and insert O open a new line ABOVE
